Nicaragua commemorates 46th anniversary of National Literacy Crusade
Various educational and governmental institutions in Managua held events to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the conclusion of the Gran Cruzada Nacional de Alfabetización (National Literacy Crusade).
Activities included a marathon organized by the Ministry of Education (MINED) that began at the Rotonda Hugo Chávez and ended at Loma de Tiscapa. Education Minister Mendy Aráuz highlighted the expansion of free, high-quality technical and professional education in the decades following the campaign.
Other commemorations took place at the Casa de Cultura y Creatividad Hugo Hernández Oviedo and the Simón Bolívar Technological Center. These events featured photo exhibitions, audiovisual productions, and discussions where historical brigadistas shared experiences regarding the 1980 campaign, which aimed to reduce the national illiteracy rate.
