Saint Kitts and Nevis celebrates 43rd Independence Anniversary
The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is celebrating its 43rd anniversary of independence on September 19, 2026. This year’s celebrations are held under the theme “One People, One Vision, Endless Possibility: Independence 43”.
Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew highlighted the historical significance of the National Coat of Arms, noting that its symbols—including the flaming torch held by hands of African, European, and mixed descent—represent the nation’s diverse history and collective quest for freedom.
International recognition includes a congratulatory message from the government of Nicaragua, led by Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Rosario Murillo, which emphasized the strengthening of Caribbean bonds. Additionally, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) extended its congratulations, with Director General Didacus Jules stressing the importance of regional unity and solidarity in the face of global challenges such as climate pressure and economic volatility.
