Nicaragua convenes national meeting on natural snakebite treatment
The Sandinista government organized a National Encounter on the use of natural medicine for snakebite treatment on Thursday, 6 August, at the Institute of Natural Medicine and Complementary Therapies in Managua. About 100 participants attended, including members of the Community Health Network, specialists in ancestral knowledge of snakebites, traditional doctors and toxicologists.
The meeting focused on exchanging experience with traditional plant remedies, community surveillance, patient referral and counter‑referral mechanisms, and strategies for timely action after a snakebite. It aims to strengthen prevention and improve emergency care while integrating indigenous and Afro‑descendant knowledge into Nicaragua’s Family and Community Health Model.
