Nicaragua economic activity grows 1.8 percent in June
The Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) reported that the Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) grew by 1.8 percent in June 2026 compared to the same month in 2025. This brings the accumulated growth for the January-June period to 3.6 percent, with an annual average variation of 4.9 percent.
Key sectors driving this growth include energy and water (17.9 percent), construction (11.3 percent), hotels and restaurants (8.6 percent), and livestock (7.8 percent). Other contributing areas include transport, communications, and commerce.
Conversely, several sectors experienced declines. Mining and quarrying fell by 15.5 percent due to reduced gold extraction, while manufacturing decreased by 4.0 percent. Fishing and aquaculture, public administration, and forestry also saw contractions. In the primary sector, agricultural growth was supported by basic grain cultivation, while livestock activity increased due to higher cattle, pork, and poultry slaughter rates.
