Nicaragua expands public hospital network with new facilities

Nicaragua is expanding its public healthcare network through the simultaneous construction of several high-resolution hospitals. According to Health Vice Minister Dr. Carlos Sáenz, the country is projected to exceed 80 public hospitals, aiming to establish one of the largest hospital networks in Central America.

Key projects include the Lesbia Carrasquilla Hospital in eastern Managua, which was delivered on July 16, 2026. The facility spans 85,800 square meters, features 36,000 square meters of buildings, and has a capacity of 510 beds with advanced technological equipment. This project aims to provide coverage to the densely populated eastern sector of the capital, complementing the existing Fernando Vélez Paiz Hospital in the west.

In Bluefields, construction began on July 17, 2026, for the Pueblo Presidente Afro y Originario Hospital. Scheduled for completion in June 2029, the hospital will be built on 172,000 square meters of land and will provide 300 beds. Other strategic projects mentioned include the National Neurosurgery Center and the National Oncology Center.
