Nicaragua implements regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies

Nicaragua is expanding its public health capabilities through the implementation of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapies. According to Silvana Palma Mendieta, Director General of Health Services, the country has been conducting studies and applications in this field since 2013.

These advanced techniques utilize primary cells extracted from adipose tissue to regenerate damaged tissues. Key applications include treating diabetic foot and chronic ulcers to prevent amputations, as well as managing chronic kidney disease to improve glomerular filtration rates and delay the need for dialysis. Additionally, these therapies are being used to address pulmonary fibrosis to help restore lung capacity in affected patients.
