Nicaragua launches ‘Diciembre en Nicaragua’ tourism strategy

The Nicaraguan Institute of Tourism (INTUR) has launched the ‘Diciembre en Nicaragua’ strategy to promote the country’s cultural, traditional, and religious offerings during the high holiday season. Co-director Mara Stotti stated that the initiative targets two main areas: domestic tourism to encourage local families to engage in recreation, and international tourism to attract foreign visitors and Nicaraguans living abroad.

The campaign highlights various destinations, including León, San Juan del Sur, Ometepe Island, Río San Juan, Cerro Negro, and the Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Stotti specifically noted the international recognition of Granada, which was named by Lonely Planet as one of the recommended destinations to visit in 2027 due to its colonial architecture and proximity to Mombacho Volcano. The strategy includes promotional efforts in Central America and other markets, such as Canada, through fairs and destination presentations.
