Nicaragua reports 1,333 traffic accidents in one week
Nicaragua's National Police reported 1,333 traffic collisions across the country between August 31 and September 6, 2026. The accidents resulted in 25 injuries. Managua recorded the highest volume of incidents with 851 collisions, followed by Matagalpa with 69, Masaya with 62, León with 59, Estelí with 53, and Chinandega with 40.
Motorcycles were the most frequent vehicles involved in accidents, with 384 cases, followed by cars with 353, pickup trucks with 286, trucks with 141, and buses with 63.
In response to these figures, authorities conducted extensive road safety operations, including 23,198 vehicle inspections and 17,852 breathalyzer tests. Law enforcement actions led to the arrest of 83 drivers for intoxication and 351 individuals for driving without a license. Additionally, approximately 1,460 driver's licenses were suspended.
