Nicaragua reports five women murdered in less than one month

In Nicaragua, five women were murdered within a 19-day period between September 14 and October 3, 2026. The killings occurred across the departments of Matagalpa, Chinandega, Managua, and Chontales.

In four of these cases, the primary suspects were the victims' partners. In Chontales, 36-year-old Brenda del Carmen González was found dead in a pasture; her partner, Óscar Danilo Mairena Miranda, was identified as a suspect but was found dead in Río San Juan before authorities could determine the circumstances of his death. In Managua, Meybol Elieth Palacios was killed by her partner, Luis Alberto Pérez Cárdenas, a man with a history of violent offenses. Her sister was injured while attempting to intervene.
