Nicaragua strengthens ties with authoritarian regimes amid U.S. Senate warnings

Experts from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) testified before the U.S. Senate regarding the authoritarian trajectory of the Ortega-Murillo regime in Nicaragua. During the hearing, officials highlighted how the Nicaraguan government is strengthening ties with authoritarian regimes, specifically citing support from China and Russia as factors that bolster the current administration's power.

In a separate diplomatic gesture, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) and the Nicaraguan government issued a formal message of congratulations to Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. The message celebrated the 81st anniversary of the party's founding, honoring the legacy of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il while praising Kim Jong Un's leadership in defending national sovereignty.
