Nicaragua’s Mercado Oriental sees surge in sales ahead of August Santo Domingo festivals

The Oriental Market in Managua is reporting a sharp increase in commercial activity as families prepare for the August celebrations honoring Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Vendors are offering a wide range of items – hats, boots, shirts, trousers, key‑chains and phone‑protectors featuring festival designs – at special discounts. Vice‑mayor Enrique Armas Rosales noted that August is one of the busiest retail periods in the country, with shoppers from across Nicaragua seeking new clothing for the festivities. Merchant Christian Navarro of Tienda Navarro Medina said the market is ready to serve customers from all departments, highlighting extensive promotions on denim, boots and accessories. The surge reflects both the cultural importance of the traditional celebrations and its role in driving local economic activity.
