Nice implements new free parking rules to support local economy
Starting September 1, Nice is implementing new street parking regulations across 16 zones to support local commerce and resident purchasing power. Under the new system led by Mayor Éric Ciotti, drivers are entitled to two hours of free parking per day. However, this benefit is not automatic; motorists must still register their stay via a parking meter or the PayByPhone app to avoid a 25 euro fine.
Zero-emission vehicles may receive an extended allowance of up to two hours and 15 minutes if correctly registered. Additionally, the daily paid parking window has been shortened; from Monday to Saturday, paid parking will now end at 7 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. Sunday and public holidays remain free of charge.
The administration expects these changes to facilitate access to neighborhood businesses, though the municipality anticipates a revenue loss of approximately three million euros.
