Nice Mayor proposes honorary citizenship for Armenian prisoners

Nice Mayor Eric Ciotti has announced that Armenian prisoners currently held in Baku may be granted the title of honorary citizen of Nice. The announcement was made during an event organized by the Armenian community on October 22, which highlighted the history of the Artsakh conflict and the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan in September 2023.

Since December 17 of last year, photographs of the former Artsakh political and military leadership held in Baku's prisons have been displayed at the Nice City Hall. Mayor Ciotti stated that the display aims to remind the public of the difficult situation of these individuals and the urgency of international efforts for their release. He emphasized that the city will keep this issue at the center of its attention until they are freed, describing their release as both a humanitarian and political necessity.
