Nice Moulins arson suspects detained as investigation nears closure

A criminal fire set in the Moulins district of Nice in July 2024 killed seven members of a single family, including three children. Police have now placed six people in pre‑trial detention in France. One of the detainees, a 23‑year‑old born in Nice, is accused of acting as an intermediary in locating the site of the blaze and has admitted a limited role, while noting he was threatened. The prosecutor said, "six personnes sont mises en examen et placées en détention provisoire en France."

Two additional suspects remain at large. One, located in Algeria, cannot be extradited to France under the 2019 France‑Algeria treaty. The other, apprehended in Guinea‑Bissau in December 2024, is also protected by the lack of a bilateral extradition agreement. International arrest warrants have been issued for both, and the investigation is expected to conclude soon.
