Nice Srl landfill proposal challenged by seven Italian municipalities

On 28 June 2026, seven municipalities in the Vallesina area of the Marche region – Poggio San Marcello, Belvedere Ostrense, Castelbellino, Castelplanio, Maiolati Spontini, Montecarotto and Rosora – submitted coordinated observations opposing the proposed non‑hazardous special‑waste landfill by Nice Srl in Poggio San Marcello.

The observations point to several shortcomings: missing authorisations, insufficient proof of full area availability, incompatibility with territorial planning tools and the Regional Waste Plan, and inadequate studies on environmental, landscape, health, hydrogeological and traffic impacts. They also note gaps in the evaluation of alternative projects and in the technical documentation.

The seven mayors reaffirm their firm stance, stating “We remain firmly opposed to the project. The battle will continue,” and pledge to intensify political and institutional dialogue with the Marche region, the Province of Ancona and other authorities to block the facility.
