Nice transportation: Tramway maintenance and increased motorway congestion

Nice is experiencing significant changes to its transportation infrastructure. Maintenance work on the Line 1 tramway is scheduled to take place at night from September 27 to October 22, 2026. To address rail wear, Lignes d’Azur will modify evening departure times between the Henri Sappia and Hôpital Pasteur stations. During these periods, the last trams will depart Henri Sappia at 22:00 and Hôpital Pasteur at 22:45, with replacement buses operating between these stations.

Simultaneously, data from TomTom indicates increased traffic congestion following an experiment by the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur. Since August 20, 2026, the reopening of an A8 motorway entrance via Boulevard du Mercantour and Avenue Valéry-Giscard-d’Estaing has led to a rise in congestion levels. In the area heading toward Antibes, the average congestion rate rose from 33.7% in 2025 to 54.6% during the same period in 2026.
