Gunther assaults WWE SmackDown GM Nick Aldis after tag match announcement

During the July 10 episode of WWE SmackDown, filmed in Oklahoma City, wrestler Gunther attacked General Manager Nick Aldis after Aldis announced a tag‑team match for the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event at Madison Square Garden. Aldis said Gunther would team with Sami Zayn to face Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. The announcement did not calm Gunner, who responded with a clothesline and repeatedly locked Aldis in a sleeper hold despite officials repeatedly pulling him apart.

WWE security, medical staff and producers intervened, but Gunther broke free several times, continuing the assault until Cody Rhodes entered the ring near the broadcast’s end to chase Gunther away and check on Aldis. The incident concluded the show as the broadcast went to its closing credits.
