Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds released covers album in 1986

In 1986, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds released the covers album ‘Kicking Against The Pricks’. The album featured songs by artists who, at the time of release, were not receiving the recognition they deserved.

According to liner notes from the 2009 reissue, musician Mick Harvey noted that Cave’s work on his novel, ‘And The Ass Saw The Angel’, was a primary reason for the decision to record a covers album, as Cave was unable to write original material during that period.
