Nick LeBrun wins $500,000 Ultimate Angler Championship
Nick LeBrun of Benton, Louisiana, won the $500,000 top prize at the Ultimate Angler Championship held at Lake Guntersville. LeBrun secured the title by weighing in 28 pounds of bass, catching a five-fish limit using a plastic frog over grass mats.
Anglers participating in the event attributed the lake's high productivity to its abundant vegetation, specifically hydrilla and milfoil. Veteran anglers Gerald Swindle and Randy Howell noted that the healthy grass provides essential habitat that sustains the fishery despite fishing pressure. The championship was sponsored by the State of Alabama, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the City of Scottsboro.
