Nick Mason's McLaren F1 GTR prototype heads to auction

A rare McLaren F1 GTR prototype, previously owned by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason for 25 years, is being auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey. The scarlet racing car, chassis number 10R, is one of only nine units ever produced.

As a factory prototype, the vehicle served as a test car for the 1996 racing season and survived two major accidents while retaining its original 1995 factory livery with yellow accents. The car was previously tested by Formula 1 driver JJ Lehto in France. The auction is expected to potentially set a new million-dollar record due to the vehicle's unique racing history and rarity.
