McLaren F1 GTR owned by Nick Mason sells for $34.6 million

A McLaren F1 GTR formerly owned by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason has sold for $34.655 million, setting a record as the most expensive British car ever sold at public auction. The sale took place during the Monterey 2026 auctions.

Known as the ‘Pop Art F1’ due to its unique red and yellow factory livery, the vehicle (chassis 10R) is one of only two ‘short-tail’ GTR prototypes. It was originally used by McLaren for testing and promotional activities, including Le Mans preparations, before being sold to Mason in 1999. He held the vehicle in his collection for approximately 25 years.

The sale marks a significant increase in value for the McLaren F1 lineage, which has seen auction prices rise from $20.4 million in 2021 to over $25 million for other models in 2025.
