Nick Reiner, 32, has been indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury for the murders of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner. The indictment, which was unsealed on Wednesday, includes a special circumstance allegation of “lying in wait,” suggesting the attack was an ambush.

Reiner also faces a special allegation regarding the use of a knife as a deadly weapon. The new indictment replaces the initial charges filed following the December 14, 2025, killings in the couple’s Brentwood home. By securing a grand jury indictment, prosecutors can now bypass the standard preliminary hearing process and proceed directly toward a trial.

The addition of the “lying in wait” charge makes Reiner eligible for the death penalty, though Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that prosecutors have not yet decided whether they will seek capital punishment. Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains held without bail. He is scheduled to return to court for a pretrial hearing on September 15.
