Nick Shirley testifies before Congress regarding healthcare fraud investigations

Shirley’s work, which reportedly uncovered over $190 million in scams involving adult and personal home care, has prompted calls for nationwide crackdowns on fraudulent activities.

During the hearing, Senator Ashley Moody criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom for allegedly referring to Shirley as ‘Slow Shirley’ following the journalist's investigations. Additionally, Representative Thomas Massie has faced criticism from supporters for questioning Shirley's credibility, suggesting the journalist should also address alleged funding of such fraud through federal omnibus and continuing resolution bills.

In California, efforts to address the issues raised by Shirley's investigations reportedly included legislative attempts by the state assembly, which critics labeled the ‘Stop Nick Shirley Act.’
