Nick Simon explores the Doris Bither case in “What Happened to Doris?”

Director Nick Simon and writer Thomas Fenton have released “What Happened to Doris?”, a film exploring the 1976 case of Doris Bither. The story follows Bither, a Culver City resident who reported being attacked and sexually assaulted by an invisible force in her home.

Unlike previous adaptations such as the 1982 film “The Entity,” which took a more salacious approach, this new production aims to provide a more factual retelling. Simon noted that the production worked closely with Bither’s son to incorporate real details from the investigation. The film depicts the scientific aspect of the case, specifically Bither’s interaction with researchers from the Parapsychology Lab at UCLA, who conducted one of the few scientific investigations into the reported haunting.
