Montreal Canadiens sign Alex Newhook and Martin St. Louis to extensions

The Montreal Canadiens have secured key personnel through multiple contract extensions as they prepare for the upcoming NHL season. Forward Alex Newhook has signed a four-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $5.55 million. The deal is set to begin in the 2027-28 season, following his performance during the team’s recent run to the Eastern Conference finals.

Additionally, the organization has signed head coach Martin St. Louis to a multi-year extension. St. Louis, who has led the team through a rebuilding phase and into consecutive playoff appearances, will remain behind the bench to provide stability for the roster.

Captain Nick Suzuki expressed satisfaction with the team’s current roster composition, noting that maintaining a consistent group of players allows the team to build on existing systems and player development. The club has also been active in the market, recently signing veteran winger Chris Kreider to a one-year contract.
