Nico Hischier contract negotiations dominate New Jersey Devils offseason

Sports analyst Pierre LeBrun quoted a source saying, “All things being equal, it would appear an extension is the most likely outcome, but things are at an early and delicate stage.” Analytics firm AFP projects Hischier could sign an eight‑year extension worth about $11.5 million AAV, requiring the Devils to manage cap space.

Other NHL clubs, notably the Montreal Canadiens, have been linked to Hischier should he become available, with the Canadiens seen as a natural fit alongside Nick Suzuki. The Los Angeles Kings and Minnesota Wild are also mentioned as interested parties.
