Nico Ortiz launches 5,000km swim for Indian orphans

Spanish entrepreneur Nico Ortiz has launched a solidarity campaign titled ‘The Long Way Home’ to support Indian orphans. The project was inspired by a 2022 incident in Singapore where Ortiz attempted to rescue two drowning individuals. While he successfully resuscitated one person, the other, an Indian orphan known as Money, passed away and his body was never recovered.

To honor the deceased, Ortiz is undertaking a symbolic 5,000-kilometer swimming challenge. The route spans from the location of the drowning in Singapore, across the Indian Ocean, and up the Ganges River to the individual's place of origin. The challenge began in June and is scheduled to continue until December. The launch of the project was attended by the Embassy of Spain and included an unprecedented six-hour circumnavigation swim around the Southern Islands of Singapore.
