Nico Williams clarifies decision to stay at Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has addressed recent speculation regarding his future, stating he rejected offers from several major European clubs, including Barcelona, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, to remain with his current club.

Following Athletic Bilbao’s 4-0 victory over Getafe, Williams responded to comments made by his agent, Felix Tainta. While Tainta suggested that negotiations with Barcelona collapsed due to the club’s financial fair play issues and registration uncertainties, Williams disputed this characterization. He stated, “Felix got his words wrong; things are not like that,” emphasizing that the decision to stay was a personal choice made in consultation with his brother and family.

Williams has committed his future to the Basque club by renewing his contract until June 30, 2035. His decision follows intense interest from top-tier clubs, with reports linking him to Bayern Munich and PSG, the latter of whom reportedly viewed him as a potential replacement for the injured Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
