Nico Wynd Golf Course Fundraiser Aims to Relocate Eagle and Osprey Nests
Residents of the Nico Wynd Golf Course in South Surrey are raising funds to move a bald eagle nest and an osprey nest after an arborist deemed the supporting trees unsafe. The estimated cost of the mitigation project is about $30,000. Strata council member Peter Ufford said the plan involves erecting two tall poles—each 60 to 70 feet high—with platforms to host the birds’ nests once the compromised trees are removed.
Wildlife biologist Myles Lamont of Terra Fauna presented the proposal and is preparing a mitigation plan required under British Columbia’s Wildlife Act. A GoFundMe page has been created, and a community fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026. Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, along with other elected officials and eagle expert David Hancock, is expected to attend the event.
