NICOL officials face arrest and search orders in Liberia

A Liberian court has issued arrest and search warrants for the Managing Director and Comptroller of the National Insurance Company of Liberia (NICOL). Nortu A. Jappah and Charlotte Kpanah face allegations including economic sabotage, theft of property, criminal conspiracy, and fraud on Liberia’s internal revenue.

Criminal Court ‘C’ for Montserrado County authorized the Sheriff of Montserrado County to search the officials' premises in Monrovia and take them into custody. Additionally, the court issued a writ of ne exeat republica to prevent the two officials from leaving the country, following allegations that they were preparing to travel abroad.

The prosecution is being led by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC). If the officials fail to post court-approved bail, they may be committed to the Common Jail of Montserrado County. The allegations involve the misuse of public money or records and the illegal disbursement of public funds.
