Nicola Artico retires after decades leading Tuscany mental health services

Dr. Nicola Artico, director of the Psychology and Mental Health unit for adults, children and adolescents at USL Toscana Nord Ovest, retired on 1 August 2026 after a long career in public mental‑health care. He had led the unit since 2012, becoming its head in 2020, and was recognised regionally and nationally for expanding the service network, promoting evidence‑based psychotherapy evaluation and improving care quality for citizens, families and professionals.

In his farewell remarks he said, “I leave a heritage of human and professional knowledge that comes from curiosity, the ability to look beyond daily work and a continuous desire to learn and grow.” The agency’s director general, Maria Letizia Casani, thanked him for his “important legacy of competence, experience and vision” that benefited the organization and the community.
