Nicola Marconi calls for more swimming pools to develop Italian diving talent

Nicola Marconi, the coach and head of the diving sector for the Marina Militare and the Italian youth national team, has called for an increase in the number of swimming facilities in Italy to better identify and develop young talent.

Speaking on the program OA Focus, Marconi noted that the current availability of facilities is extremely limited, with only a handful of major centers. He emphasized that expanding competitive activities through more accessible infrastructure is essential for the growth of the sport.

Regarding the development of champions, Marconi explained that talent requires a combination of rhythm, power, and innate elegance, all of which must be refined through rigorous, repetitive training and a commitment to perfection. He highlighted that while natural ability is important, success is ultimately driven by the correlation between a coach's guidance and an athlete's dedication to the work.
