Nicola Payne unsolved murder case revisited in new documentary
A new Channel 4 documentary, ‘The Never Ending Murder’, revisits the 1991 disappearance and suspected murder of 18-year-old Nicola Payne in Coventry. Payne vanished while walking a short distance between her partner's home and her parents' house in December 1991.
The investigation has faced significant criticism over the decades. Former CID head John Plimmer described the initial police work as having ‘so many flaws’, specifically citing issues with identifying motives and the failure to properly preserve evidence. While suspects were identified and a 2015 trial resulted in two men being found not guilty, no convictions have been secured.
The documentary explores the impact of the unsolved case on Payne’s family and the procedural errors that have hindered the pursuit of justice for over 30 years.
