Nicola Sturgeon calls for monarchy abolition to protect future royals

Former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has advocated for the abolition of the monarchy, suggesting that doing so would protect future members of the Royal Family from the burdens of their roles. Speaking in the Channel 4 documentary ‘The Royals: Time To Go?’, Sturgeon expressed “huge sympathy” for the royals, arguing that it is unfair for individuals like Prince George to have a predetermined life over which they have no choice.

Graham Smith, leader of the anti-monarchy group Republic, supported the sentiment, stating that the institution often uses children as “PR props.”

A survey commissioned by Channel 4 for the documentary indicates that 28 percent of people in the UK support abolishing the monarchy, a figure that rises to 38 percent among those aged 18 to 24. While 44 percent of respondents opposed abolition, the poll suggested that negative attitudes toward the institution have been influenced by the conduct of certain family members.
