Garlasco murder case: Andrea Sempio identified as primary suspect

The investigation into the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco has entered a critical new phase. The Pavia Prosecutor's Office has identified Andrea Sempio as the primary suspect, shifting focus away from Alberto Stasi, who remains definitively convicted.

New forensic scrutiny is being applied to evidence from the original crime scene. Investigators are exploring the possibility of a test tube swap involving DNA found on Stasi's bicycle pedals and a spoon found in the house. Additionally, the defense for Stasi is requesting new examinations of a soap dispenser, claiming unanalyzed fingerprints may exist.

Andrea Sempio's defense, led by lawyer Angela Taccia, has announced plans to submit counter-arguments and memorandums by October 18. The defense is pursuing a strategy of full legal accountability, rejecting any claims of mental infirmity that could reduce a potential sentence. Meanwhile, the Poggi family has indicated they will not act as civil parties in the upcoming proceedings against Sempio.
