Nicolas Cage compares Marvel Cinematic Universe to a “glorified WWE”
During an appearance at Fan Expo Dallas, actor Nicolas Cage criticized the current direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), comparing it to a “well-funded and glorified WWE.”
Cage noted that while he initially admired the franchise for how it wove character backstories and interconnected threads together, he feels the focus has shifted heavily toward large-scale action and choreographed battles. He remarked that seeing talented actors in superhero costumes often feels like the narrative is simply “cutting to the fight.”
To illustrate his preference for character-driven storytelling, Cage cited his experience in the series Spider-Noir. He praised the project for functioning as a detective mystery rather than a succession of combat sequences, expressing a desire to see the MCU return to prioritizing narrative depth over spectacle.
