Nicolas Cage stars in WWII spy thriller ‘Fortitude’
The first trailer has been released for ‘Fortitude’, a World War II spy thriller directed by Simon West and starring Nicolas Cage. The film is based on the real-life Operation Fortitude, the Allied deception campaign designed to mislead Nazi Germany regarding the location of the D-Day landings.
Cage portrays Duško Popov, a real-life double agent whose exploits are cited as an inspiration for the James Bond character. The narrative follows intelligence officers Dudley Clarke and Thomas Argyll Robertson as they orchestrate a massive misinformation effort involving fake military units and equipment to protect the true invasion site.
The production features an ensemble cast including Ben Kingsley, Michael Sheen, Matthew Goode, Ed Skrein, Alice Eve, and Jordi Mollà. While a release date has not been finalized, the film is expected in 2026. Additionally, Simon Afram Productions is involved in a legal dispute with Netflix, seeking at least $105 million after an unencrypted copy of the film was allegedly lost following a theft of hard drives from the production company’s office.
