Nicolas Cage living in hotels after Malibu mansion sinkhole

Nicolas Cage Malibu sinkhole coastal erosion L.A. Comic Con

Actor Nicolas Cage revealed he is currently living in hotels after a massive sinkhole caused significant damage to his $10.5 million beachfront mansion in Malibu, California. Speaking at the L.A. Comic Con on October 31, the 62-year-old actor described himself as “a little bit homeless” due to the situation.

The incident occurred on September 8, when coastal erosion and heavy rains, linked to Tropical Storm Marie, caused a large crater to open in the driveway of his property on Sea Level Drive. The sinkhole, reported to be up to 30 feet deep and 60 feet long, destroyed the access road, damaged a gas line, and prompted local authorities to declare an emergency.

The collapse affected the broader community, leading to evacuation orders for 31 nearby properties because the damaged road blocked access for emergency services. While Cage has been displaced, he noted that he still plans to celebrate Halloween by taking his four-year-old daughter, August, trick-or-treating in Santa Monica.
