Nicolas Cage to star as Serbian spy Duško Popov in ‘Fortitude’

The first trailer for the film ‘Fortitude’ has been released, featuring Nicolas Cage as Duško Popov, a Serbian double agent during World War II. Popov is believed to have been a primary inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond character.

Directed by Simon West, the historical action-adventure drama depicts Operation Fortitude, one of the most successful military deception operations in history. The operation used inflatable tanks, canvas aircraft, and false radio messages to trick Nazi leadership into believing an Allied invasion would occur at Pas-de-Calais rather than Normandy.

The film features an ensemble cast including Matthew Goode, Ed Skrein, Ben Kingsley, and Michael Sheen, with Sheen portraying Winston Churchill. The production is currently facing a separate legal complication involving a $105 million lawsuit filed by producer Simon Abrahams against Netflix regarding an allegedly stolen unencrypted master copy.
