Nicolas Ullens de Schooten faces trial for murder of stepmother

The trial of Nicolas Ullens de Schooten begins this Monday at the Nivelles Assize Court. He is accused of the March 2023 murder of his stepmother, Myriam Lechien, in Ohain, Belgium.

According to investigators, the incident followed a dispute regarding the fortune of his late father, Baron Guy Ullens, one of Belgium’s wealthiest individuals. On the morning of the crime, Nicolas Ullens de Schooten reportedly visited his father to request financial assistance, which was refused. Shortly after leaving the property, he returned and intercepted the victims' vehicle.

Following the shooting, which left Lechien with multiple gunshot wounds, the defendant surrendered to the Lasne police station, describing himself as being in a state of profound emotional distress.
