Nicolás Maduro promotes national reconciliation through literature

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a message promoting national reconciliation, peace, and ethical values through literature. In posts shared on his official social media channels, Maduro discussed his reading of the historical novel ‘Quo vadis’ by Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz, which he is reading alongside his wife, Cilia Flores.

Maduro used the themes of the book and passages from the New Testament to emphasize the importance of dignity, courage, and overcoming adversity. He specifically referenced the examples of the apostles Peter and Paul and the early Christian communities in Rome to advocate for a philosophy of ‘overcoming evil by doing good.’

Additionally, the president encouraged citizens to practice constant prayer, faith, and gratitude, citing the teachings of Conny Méndez. He framed these moral principles as a guide for spiritual development and the promotion of peaceful coexistence and national unity within the country.
