Nicolás Maduro's Physical Transformation While Detained in U.S. Prison
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was captured by U.S. forces on 3 January and transferred to a federal prison in New York, where he and his wife Cilia Flores face multiple charges. During a July 22 courtroom hearing, Venezuelan illustrator Jorge Torrealba observed that Maduro had lost weight, sported a markedly different, greying haircut and beard, and appeared pale from limited exposure to sunlight.
Separate reports detail Maduro’s prison diet, noting a breakfast of hot oatmeal, whole‑grain bread, fruit and coffee, and lunches and dinners that include lasagna with meat, chicken fajitas, hamburgers, steamed vegetables and baked potatoes. The combined observations highlight a noticeable physical change since his detention began.
