Nicolás Otamendi apologizes to Santiago Beltrán after River Plate dispute
River Plate captain Nicolás Otamendi has publicly apologized to goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán following a heated confrontation during a recent match against Sarmiento in Junín. During that game, Otamendi reprimanded the 22-year-old goalkeeper, shouting “Salí una vez!” (Come out once!) after a play where Beltrán failed to intercept a deep pass.
Following River Plate's 3-0 victory over Belgrano in Córdoba, Otamendi addressed the incident, stating he had already apologized to Beltrán personally and was now doing so publicly. He attributed his outburst to his competitive nature, noting, “Sometimes I lose my cool. I live football in a certain way... I did it.”
Otamendi also offered support to the goalkeeper on the pitch, praising his performance and offering advice on developing the personality required to play for such a large club. He commended Beltrán's work ethic, describing him as the first to arrive and the last to leave training.
