Nicolás Tagliafico criticizes Argentine football quality

Argentine national team defender Nicolás Tagliafico has criticized the current state and organization of the Argentine Primera División. In recent interviews, the Olympique de Lyon player stated that the quality of the domestic league has declined compared to previous years.

Tagliafico noted that the complex tournament formats, which involve multiple groups and a high number of teams, have made it difficult to follow the competition. He contrasted the current structure with the Apertura and Clausura formats of 20 teams that he grew up watching. He expressed that these organizational changes, combined with difficult match schedules for those living in Europe, have caused him to “lose the love for Argentine football.”

Regarding his professional future, the 34-year-old left the door open to a potential return to the Argentine league once his contract with Lyon expires in June 2027, though he noted such a move would depend on the specific projects and club structures available.
