Nicolás Varrone leaves Van Amersfoort Racing and Formula 2

Argentine driver Nicolás Varrone has announced his departure from Van Amersfoort Racing, ending his participation in the Formula 2 season with only three races remaining. Varrone stated that the decision to leave the team was not easy but believed it was “the right path to move forward and think about what is next” for his career.

Varrone’s exit follows a difficult weekend in Madrid, where he crashed during qualifying and was involved in a collision with Kush Maini during the Sprint race. Throughout his 11 races this season, he accumulated 15 points, with his highest scores coming from Miami and Canada.

Van Amersfoort Racing has named 19-year-old Japanese driver Hiyu Yamakoshi, who is moving up from Formula 3, as Varrone’s replacement starting from Baku. Varrone’s future options include potentially finding a seat with another competitive Formula 2 team or returning to the World Endurance Championship (WEC), where he has previously competed.
