Niconico to broadcast reconstruction of 1945 end-of-war radio broadcasts

Niconico has announced a special program to commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War II on August 15, 2026. The broadcast, titled ‘Gyokuon-hoso 37-minute full reconstruction,’ aims to recreate the original 1945 radio broadcasts as closely as possible.

The program will feature the Emperor’s ‘End-of-War Imperial Rescript’ and the ‘Cabinet Proclamation’ issued by the Suzuki Kan'taro administration. This year’s broadcast is notable for including the newly discovered audio of the Cabinet Proclamation. Supervised by Masanobu Okabe, director of the Japan Radio Museum, and based on Akiko Takeyama’s book, the program will use subtitles to supplement historical news scripts where audio is unavailable.
