Nicosia hosts cancer prevention event and activates new mammography machine
The third edition of the Nicosiana event, held from August 27 to 29, concluded in Nicosia, Sicily, focusing on oncological prevention and healthcare access in inland areas. Organized by the Divina Mania cultural association in collaboration with the Municipality of Nicosia and the ASP of Enna, the initiative provided 220 free screenings, including 76 mammographies, 62 Pap tests, and the distribution of 82 colon-rectal cancer screening kits.
A significant outcome of the event is the activation of a new, state-of-the-art mammography machine at the Casa della Comunità in Nicosia. This equipment allows local women and residents of nearby municipalities to access essential breast cancer diagnostic services without traveling to Enna or other distant medical facilities.
In addition to medical screenings, the event featured public meetings with specialists from various institutions, including the Istituto Oncologico Mediterraneo and Humanitas. The initiative also included a fundraising campaign for AGO, an association that provides free transportation services for oncology patients undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy.
