Değirmenlik Başpınar arson suspect faces court

A suspect, identified as S. Ö., has been brought before a court in connection with an arson attack in the Değirmenlik Başpınar region. According to police testimony, the suspect entered her former partner's residence on Özcanlar Avenue using a key. Upon discovering a red bra on the bed, which led her to believe she was being cheated on, she allegedly set the bed on fire, causing significant damage to the bedroom and smoke damage throughout the house.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly traveled around the Nicosia area and sent WhatsApp messages to friends stating, “I burned the house,” citing the discovery of the clothing as the motive. Police located and detained the suspect in Nicosia. During a search of the suspect's residence, authorities found two bullets in the bedroom of her son, T. S., though no direct evidence of arson was found in the home itself. A lighter believed to have been used in the crime was recovered from the suspect's vehicle. The suspect has been ordered to remain in custody for eight additional days as the investigation continues, including the review of camera footage and mobile phone data. Authorities are also investigating a second arson incident that occurred at the same residence 24 hours later.
