Nicotera dialysis service suspension forces patient transfers
The temporary suspension of dialysis services in Nicotera has prompted concerns regarding healthcare organization in the Vibo Valentia territory. Approximately thirty patients have been transferred to the Tropea facility, causing significant disruption for individuals requiring regular, non-deferrable treatments, including those participating in the “dialysis holidays” project.
Local political representative Maria Teresa Adilardi of Fratelli d’Italia has called for clarifications from the provincial health agency, stating the issue stems from a broader shortage of medical personnel. The suspension was reportedly triggered by the sick leave of the only physician on duty. Critics argue that the current staffing levels for nephrological care across Nicotera, Tropea, and Serra San Bruno are insufficient to manage sudden absences, creating a fragile system that requires structural intervention.
