Nicușor Dan addresses Orthodox youth at National Cathedral
Romanian President Nicușor Dan addressed approximately 2,400 Orthodox youths at the National Cathedral, delivering a speech that emphasized a distinction between decent public discourse and loud hypocrisy. He called for a “healthy nationalism” and a more respectful tone in public expression, rather than a shift in core beliefs.
The event coincided with the reopening of the National Cathedral to the public for the first time in eight months following construction and renovation work. Thousands of young people attended the service, utilizing social media to share fragments of the liturgy and the cathedral's architecture. While the event drew attention to the religious engagement of the youth, several areas of the cathedral, including the basement chapel and main entrance esplanade, remain unfinished.
